Empower:Me

EU Erasmus + project Empower:Me

What is about

Empower:Me aims to extend method pools of anyone working with special needs students. By sharing good practices and implementing them into everyday school, we re-evaluate and adjust them. The participating teachers, social workers and disseminators share their experiences after using various methods over a period of time under differing circumstances. Henceforth, it becomes a priority to check in with the students and helps them to develop a healthy sense of self and ambitions for their future.

The main activities will consist of three in-person-meetings, in Slovenia, Turkey and in Slovakia. We will start by exchanging our good practices and trying them out ourselves. After the first activity, we will integrate them in our work and after a period of time come together for our second activity, which will be a teacher's conference in Ankara. There, we will present our project to a bigger audience. Lastly, we will conclude our project with our third meeting and publish a brochure.

We expect to extend method pools across Europe and gain knowledge about the applicability of them under various circumstances. We will put all the good practices into a brochure and add useful tips. The brochure can be shared easily with anyone working with students with special needs and motivate them to try out practices they did not know before. Plus, we expect the participants to make more room in everyday school to let the students reflect on themselves and express their
wishes.

Kick-off Meeting in Maribor (13th of January to 16th of January)

Teachers, social workers, psychologists, principals... from four countries (Slovenia, Germany, Slovakia and Turkey) met in Maribor at the opening of the Erasmus+ Empower:Me project. And exchanged experiences and good practices for working with children and young people with special needs.

How to help them best, to make them more self-confident and independent, how to find more effective solutions – were the topics of the conversation. Moreover, how to make the work of teachers easier and how to support parents - it's not easy for them neither...

More heads know more - they say. And really - so much new, stimulating and useful things were shared! The knowledge will be also shared with broader audience, as a manual for teachers will be developed within the project.

Such meetings are also an opportunity to get to know the culture and customs of individual partner countries. And Maribor (Štajerska and Slovenia) made its mark in the hearts of the participants!

Beautiful nature, a nice view from the Piramida hill, a good vine and food and the friendliness of the locals - were the first impressions.

The weather was also pleasing - both with sun and snow, which was a rare experience for some of participants.
